BAREILLY: Following preliminary investigation into the death of a 71-year-old farmer Room Singh, who allegedly killed himself by consuming poison, DM Budaun Manoj Kumar has suspended lekhpal Kuldeep Bhardwaj and taken naib tehsildar Ashish Saxena off charge.
According to police, Singh had consumed poison inside Sadar tehsil premises on Thursday to protest against “corrupt officials who transferred his agricultural plot to someone else.”
He died during treatment at a hospital in Bareilly on Friday.
The victim had left a suicide note in which he mentioned names of the accused corrupt officials responsible for his condition.
A magisterial probe was ordered in the case and additional DM will look into the investigation.
SSP OP Singh said, “The case is under investigation and we will take action against the accused after evidence is found against them.”
Singh’s family had blocked the Bareilly-Budaun road after keeping his body in protest. They ended their protest after police registered an FIR under IPC section 306 (abetment to suicide) against lekhpal, naib tehsildar, Arti Varshney, Singh’s nephew Kuldeep Singh and his wife Munni Devi late on Friday.
