Moradabad: Based on the confession of 40-year-old Rajkumar, alias Raju, a team of Delhi Police officials recovered Rs 22 lakh in cash from an agricultural field in Ratupura village under Thakurdwara Kotwali police station here on Saturday evening. The money belongs to BJP MP from Moradabad, Sarvesh Kumar Singh, and was stolen from his official residence in New Delhi by his trusted domestic help Rajkumar.
Officials said that Rajkumar (who goes by his first name) burgled the MP’s house on Wednesday night and an FIR in this regard was registered on Thursday at Parliament Street police station by Sarvesh Singh’s son Sushant Singh, an MLA from Badapur in Bijnor. Neither the parliamentarian nor his family members were present at the time of the crime. Based on the CCTV footage from the house, Delhi Police on Saturday arrested Rajkumar.
According to officials, the 40-year-old domestic help confessed to his crime during interrogation and revealed the spot where the stolen money was hidden. Based on his confession, a police team left for Moradabad and found Rs 2,192,000 in a plastic pot buried inside an agricultural field in Ratupura village.
“The remaining Rs 8,000 was reportedly spent by the accused. Delhi Police officials returned with Rajkumar after recovering the stolen money,” Thakurdwara Kotwali SHO Rajesh Kumar Solnaki said.
BJP MP Sarvesh Kumar Singh belongs to Ratupura village of Moradabad. Rajkumar, who also belongs to the same village, has been with the MP’s family for the past 30 years.
Meanwhile, Sarvesh Kumar Singh told TOI, “The amount stolen from our residence was recently withdrawn from a bank for the wedding of my son’s brother-in-law. A part of the amount was also meant for the college run by our family in Moradabad. Rajkumar was aware that the money was kept inside our Delhi residence. I had never thought that he would commit such a crime.”
