BAREILLY: Almost 19 years after a sub inspector was attacked with a brick and brutally murdered, a local court on Saturday sentenced a woman police officer to seven years in jail for the crime. The court found the inspector guilty under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to
murder) of IPC and she was sent to jail.
The prosecution, however, was not satisfied with the quantum of the punishment and also with the IPC section under which she was charged by the Bareilly court. The government lawyer said that he will move high court. Anil Upadhyay, joint director (prosecution), said: "We will appeal in Allahabad high court to convict the woman under IPC's section 302 (murder) instead of section 304. Meanwhile, police department will also conduct departmental inquiry and will take action against her."
Upadhyay said that the high court had put a stay on the matter for nearly 15 years and the proceedings in the local court started in 2015.
The woman, who was posted as sub-inspector in Bareilly in 2000, had killed another sub-inspector Arvind Pratap Singh with a brick. She later alleged that Arvind had raped her and was also forcing her to join sex trade.
