AURANGABAD: The Aurangabad rural police have rescued a 40-year-old agent, connected with the 30-30 scheme, who was kidnapped by five investor farmers 24 hours ago.

The police have arrested three of the five accused.

The agent, Dilip Chavan, was rescued on Thursday afternoon from Ranjangaon in Pune. The accused trio had kidnapped him in an attempt to recover the invested money. The arrested accused have been identified as Ramnath Kolhe, Maruti Naage and Dinesh Rathod, all hailing from Bokud-Jalgaon.

Police said the man had collected several lakh of rupees from the farmers, who received large compensation against the acquisition of their land for the Samruddhi super expressway. Under the scheme, the investors were assured of 30% monthly returns on the invested amount. Falling prey to the trap, the man named as key accused in this kidnapping case, invested Rs 17 lakh, Kolhe invested Rs 2 lakh and Naage invested Rs 6 lakh.

Deputy superintendent of police Vishal Nehul Patil told TOI that Chavan reportedly collected a large amount of money and forwarded it to his boss, who is already an accused in an offence registered earlier this year. However, these farmers, on not receiving the money, started following up with Chavan. On Wednesday afternoon, Chavan reached the registrar of properties office for selling his 36 gunthas of land for Rs 15 lakh. On learning about it, the investor farmers reached the spot and asked Chavan to return their money. This resulted in a heated argument, following which the suspects bundled Chavan in their car and took him to an undisclosed location.
