Police nabs 15 for illegally slaughtering cattle

rural police and Chikalthana police on Monday evening arrested a total of 15 suspects while they were slaughtering cattle on Bakri Eid.

The police with help of veterinary experts are in the process of identifying the total number of animals that were illegally slaughtered before the team arrived on the spot.

The action was part of rural police’s drive to ensure serious check on any possible incidents of violating the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (amendment) Act, 1976, that bans slaughtering of animals like cow, ox, or bull belonging to cow progeny.

The police team rescued five bulls and seized around 13 quintal of beef with a total valuation of over Rs3 lakh from a locked company shed situated in the limits of Shendra five-star industrial estate.

According to LCB inspector Bhagwat Funde, his office received information about illegal slaughter being carried out in a company shed. Acting on this, a squad reached the shed and arrested 15 people.

The accused have been identified as Abdul Wahid Shaikh, Shaikh Tabrez, Idris Noor Khan Pathan, Majid Akbar Shaikh, Sarfaraz Majid Shaikh, Mohammad Amin Chand Shah, Akbar Hanif Syed, Rafiq Khudabaksh, Awaiz Parwez Shaikh, Javed Samad Shaikh, Wasim Budan Shaikh, Mohammad Shafiq Baba, Nasir Budan Shaikh, Majid Budan Qureshi and Naser Shaikh Budan — all residents of Warud Kazi in Aurangabad tehsil.

The accused along with the seized objects were taken to Chikalthana police station where an offence was registered against them.

The action has come within a couple of days of the Aurangabad city police rescuing around two dozen cattle from Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah area where some suspects had allegedly brought these animals for slaughtering.
