Owner traces his stolen truck in Nanded; two arrested

AURANGABAD

: Not relying on the police, a truck owner’s family not only chased the thieves for about 270 km, but also nabbed them with the help of Nanded police on Monday morning.

The dramatic chase started at around 1:30 am on Monday, when Shaikh Khalil (50), a resident of Qaiser Colony, learnt that his truck with registration number MH-20-BT-3143 has been stolen. He had parked the vehicle under the flyover that connects

with Mahanubhav Ashram cross road on Beed Bypass and Paitha road.

Soon after learning about the theft, Khalil, informed about it to his other family members and they started the hunt on their own. They travelled in different directions to locate the stolen truck.

It was Khalil’s two sons and younger brother Shakeel, who found their truck on Nanded-Hyderabad road. They waylaid it, before raising an alarm and nabbing two of the suspect thieves who were driving a the truck. They also caught their accomplice who was in another car.

They detained the accused trio before the police arrived. Shakeel passed on the info to the Vimantal police station of Nanded. But, much to the dismay of police, one of the accused managed to flee before the police could reach the spot.

Satara area police station’s senior inspector Premsagar Chandramore told TOI, “The truck was stolen sometime around 1am on Monday. The accused thieves had come in a car and one of them stole the truck, while the other two driving the car tailed it till Nanded.

The officer said that a team has been sent to Nanded for taking the accused in the custody and bringing them to Aurangabad.

Sources informed that about a dozen trucks have been stolen from the different parts of the city in the past few years.

Police said with this detection, a major racket involving truck thefts committed in different parts of the state is likely to be unearthed.

A senior police officer said, “It is a rare that the truck owner, without wasting time in completing the formalities of lodging the complaint, just informed the police and went on to search for the truck himself.”
