Bakery worker from West Bengal killed by teen son in Sambhajinagar
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 19-year-old allegedly killed his father by striking him on the head with a wooden log while he was asleep at their rented home in Babar Colony, near Katkat Gate, the police said on Tuesday. The accused youth fled after the incident. The police suspect a monetary dispute to be the reason.
The deceased was a worker at Baba Bakery, was declared dead after being taken to a private hospital. The Jinsi police have registered a murder case against his 19-year-old son, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s 23-year-old elder son.
According to DCP (Zone-II) Ratnakar Navale, “The family had been living on rent in Babar Colony for the past seven months, after moving from Murshidabad district in West Bengal. On Monday night, the three had dinner together before going to sleep.”
Police said the older brother woke up between 7.15am and 7.30am on Tuesday and noticed something was amiss. He soon found his father lying motionless with blood oozing from his head, and his younger brother sitting on the bed. A wooden stick was lying nearby.
By the time the 23-year-old realised the gravity of the situation, the accused had fled. He informed the landlord and took his father to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
“The exact motive behind the killing was not immediately known, and the police are probing the circumstances,” officers said, though initial suspicion points to a monetary dispute. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and sub-inspector Dnyaneshwar Shinde is leading the investigation.
The Jinsi police have formed two special teams to trace the accused, while a crime branch unit has also joined the search.
