The assailants also attacked and injured Subba Rayudu's wife Pasupuleti Balasubbamma when she tried to save her husband's life. She has been hospitalised and is undergoing treatment.

Chakrapani Reddy, who is also YSRCP's Nandyal district unit president, alleged that ruling TDP activists were involved in Subba Rayudu's murder. He accused the ruling party of instigating violence and vengeful attacks across the state.

The attackers stormed into Subba Rayudu's residence at Sitaramapuram and attacked him with stones and knives, leading to his instantaneous death.

While Balasubbamma tried to intervene and save her husband, the assailants also attacked her and injured her. As the incident sparked off tensions in the district, a police picket has been set up at Sitaramapuram as a precautionary measure.
