TIRUPATI: The temple city of Tirupati remained on the simmer throughout the day till former Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy called off his Tirumala visit at the very last minute on Friday.
After the ruling NDA alliance parties and the YSRCP locked horns over the "declaration of faith form for non-Hindus" ahead of Jagan's visit to Tirumala, prompting the district police wing to enforce section 30 of the police Act as a precautionary measure, police notices were served to prominent YSRCP leaders including Tirupati MP Dr M Gurumoorthy and former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy in Tirupati.
Police also placed Rajampet YSRCP MP Akepati Amarnadh Reddy under house arrest and served notices to former Proddatur MLA Rachamallu Sivaprasad Reddy.
Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and Gurumoorthy slammed the state govt for creating undue hurdles for Jagan's Tirumala visit by creating a fear psychosis among the YSRCP cadres by issuing notices to the prominent YSRCP leaders.
Meanwhile, at an all party meeting attended by representatives of the TDP, BJP and the Jana Sena and also by the Sadhu parishad members, a unanimous decision was taken to stress upon the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams to enforce the mandatory declaration clause for non-Hindus during Jagan's visit to Tirumala.
On the other hand, TTD officials also set up boards at various places on the hill town, with a message to the non-Hindu devotees arriving at Tirumala, to compulsorily declare their faith and reverence in Lord Venkateswara before entering the Vaikuntam Q complex.
Meanwhile, as the situation on ground seemed to be escalating, Chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu also issued a statement to all the devotees visiting the Tirumala temple to stringently adhere the ancient traditions and customs followed at the Lord Venkateswara temple and the TTD guidelines.
But with the former CM calling off his visit just hours before his touchdown in Tirupati at the very last minute, the TTD officials and the police department heaved a big sigh of relief on Friday evening.
