TIRUPATI: An elderly died and two other women were injured in an attack by masked assailants at a residence in Royal Nagar in Tirupati district on Thursday.
Jayalakshmi, 70, the widow of one Basavaiah, was found murdered in her home. Her 14-year-old granddaughter, Niyathi, was also injured in the incident.
Jayalakshmi lived with her son Srinivasa Rao, his wife, and their two granddaughters. When a police team arrived at the scene, they found that cash and jewelry were untouched, indicating that the attack was not a robbery.
Superintendent of police L Subba Rayudu visited the crime scene and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. He also inspected the room where Jayalakshmi was found.
The SP has formed five investigative teams led by Additional SP J. Kulasekhar to probe the incident.
Police suspect the attack was motivated by personal rivalry rather than financial gain, as the masked assailants did not steal any valuables from the home.
