Summer vacay at nani’s house turns tragic as siblings drown in pond

Prayagraj: A summer vacation visit to their maternal grandfather’s house ended in tragedy when a 12-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister drowned in a pond at Katiyahi village under the Tharwai police station area in Prayagraj’s trans-Ganga region on Sunday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sachin Yadav (12) and Madhu (14), residents of Balaksaray village in the Utraon area.

According to police, tragedy struck when the two children, who were playing near the pond, entered the water and accidentally ventured into a deep section. When family members and neighbours could not locate them for a long time, they launched a search and informed the police.

On receiving the information, a police team rushed to the spot and initiated a search operation. The incident triggered panic among villagers, who gathered near the pond. With the help of local swimmers, police eventually recovered the bodies of both children from the pond.
