‘Sensitise people about sustainable development goals’

organised a debate and a general knowledge competition, on Friday. The event was organised on the eve of the International Day For Persons With Disabilities (IDPD).

The theme of the function, chosen by the United Nations (UN) for this year’s IDPD, is to sensitize people about the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), which have been consented to by 193 countries of the world in 2015, said the center in charge Alok Prasad.

He added that the 17 goals include inclusive development, education for all, health, social justice, sustainable development and global partnership for all. They underscore the inclusive growth for the differently-abled and the need to make an effort for a synergistic enterprise.

In the GK competition, Shyam Shankar, Ajay Kumar Mishra and Rajkumar Maurya bagged the first, second, and third positions, respectively. The topic of the debate competition was ‘is the youth- power of India moving in the right direction’. Many cited examples from the PM’s recent move of demonetization. Most debaters argued that the overwhelming support for demonetization from the youth was a sign that the youth power is moving in the right direction.

Aditya Tiwari, Ajay Mishra, and Anjul bagged the first, second, and third positions, respectively, in the debate competition.

The award ceremony of the IDPD eve function was anchored by Alok Prasad, while the chief guest was Prof KS Mishra, the senior dean of Allahabad University. Prof Ashish Saxena, Prof Siddhnath, and Saroj Yadav were the judges in the debate completion while Prof AR Siddiqui (former DSW) was the guest of honour of the award ceremony.
