Over 2.5L in dist apply to enrol in voter list

Prayagraj: Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign to update electoral roll gathered significant momentum in Prayagraj, with 2,58,822 people applying to be enrolled as new voters. So far, 427 applications were rejected, while scrutiny of remaining forms was underway, officials said.The drive intensified after nearly 11.53 lakh voters from the district were placed in ASD (Absent, Shifted, Dead) category and consequently removed from voter list. Since then, administration focused on identifying and enrolling eligible voters to ensure no genuine elector got left out.
Between Oct 27—when the SIR campaign began—and Jan 5, when the draft electoral roll was published, 44,123 applications were received for first-time voter registration. Following publication of the draft, many citizens found discrepancies in details. As a result, 66,242 voters submitted Form 8 seeking corrections in the published roll. The process of verifying and updating these applications is currently in progress.Meanwhile, special attention is being given to persons with disabilities who wish to register as voters but are unable to contact booth level officers. A dedicated campaign will be conducted from Feb 20 to 25 to assist such individuals. In a meeting chaired by additional district election officer Pooja Mishra, along with the District Divyangjan Welfare Officer and other officials, it was decided that booth level officers and agents would personally visit households with disabled members to provide and help fill Form 6 for new voter registration.
