Over 10cr have taken dip since Maghi Purinma

Prayagraj: Even after the Maghi Purnima Snan (when most akharas and kalpwasis left the mela area), Sangam continues to attract a sea of devotees from across world with around 10 crore taking a holy dip in the past eight days.The total number of bathers between Jan 13 and Feb 12 (from Paush Purnima to Maghi Purnima) was 48.29 crore while it crossed the 58.03 crore mark on Feb 20. The final figure is likely to cross the 65-crore mark after the Maha Shivaratri Snan scheduled for Feb 26. Statistics revealed the highest turnout was recorded on Mauni Amavasya (Jan 29) with nearly 8 crore devotees taking a dip. On Makar Sankranti (Jan 14), around 3.5 crore devotees bathed during the Amrit Snan. Additionally, over 2 crore devotees bathed on Jan 30 and Feb 1 respectively while 1.7 crore participated in Paush Purnima Snan. On Basant Panchami (Feb 3), 2.57 crore devotees took the sacred dip at Triveni Sangam and over 2.04 crore devotees followed suit on the Maghi Purnima. With majority of seers, sadhus and kalpwasis returning to mutts, temples and their native towns respectively after Maghi Purnima Snan, over 85 lakh devotees took a dip a day later on Feb 13. Figures revealed that while 97 lakh devotees took a holy dip on Feb 14 the numbers swelled to 1.36 crore on Feb 15. Subsequent figures showed that Feb 16 recorded 1.49 crore devotees followed by 1.35 crore on Feb 17, 1.26 crore on Feb 18, 1.19 crore on Feb 19 and 1.28 crore on Feb 20. On Feb 21, over 1 crore devotees took the dip in the sacred waters of Sangam.This historic Maha Kumbh turnout has surpassed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's expectations who had predicted an initial count of 45 crore devotees.
