‘Janvani Diwas’ to mark birth anniversary of Justice Gupta

Prayagraj: Supreme Court’s Justice Pankaj Mithal will be chief guest in a lecture series programme organized on the occasion of birth anniversary of Justice Prem Shankar Gupta on Saturday by the organisation Etawah Hindi Seva Nidhi at Neerakpur, Dandi in Naini area of Prayagraj. This day is celebrated as Janvani Diwas (mother tongue day)
This is the first lecture series, which has been organized in the name of Shanti Bhushan and Keshari Nath Tripathi, two renowned lawyers of the country. The programme will begin at 5pm and continue till 8pm.
According to the secretary of the organization, senior advocate Pradeep Kumar, the programme will be presided over by senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi and the main speaker on this occasion will be Bhagwan Singh, who will deliver a lecture on ‘Bharat Mein Nyay Ki Awadharna-Itihas aur Vartman’ (Concept of justice in India-Its history and present).
The special guests on this occasion will be state’s cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, Dinesh Pratap Singh and city mayor Ganesh Kesarwani.
Senior advocate Jayant Bhushan and additional advocate general Neeraj Tripathi will also be present on the occasion. In the second session, there will be Kavi Gosthi (poetic recitation), said the secretary.
This programme is being organized in the memory of late Justice Prem Shankar Gupta, a high court judge, who was known for conducting proceedings of the high court in Hindi and delivered judgments and orders only in the Hindi language.

CM unveils advocate generals office at high court in Jodhpur

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the office of the advocate-general at the high court in Jodhpur, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 22.55 crore. Gehlot assured the legal fraternity that funds would not be a problem for the high court as Rs 110 crore had been sanctioned in 2009. He also emphasized the need to leverage technology for expedited disposal of pending cases and proposed the establishment of new fast-track courts. Gehlot highlighted the introduction of important laws in Rajasthan and stated that other states were imitating them.

Court issues release orders of advocate tortured in custody

The court has issued release orders for advocate Varinder Singh, who accused police of mistreatment and torture. Singh and another person were arrested on September 15 and alleged they were subjected to unnatural sex in custody. The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana took up the matter, leading to the arrest of several police officials. The Punjab Police has formed a special investigation team to probe the case. In the UK, actor Russell Brand is facing allegations of sexual assault, which he denies.
