Prayagraj: Senior advocate Rakesh Pande and Akhilesh Kumar Sharma were elected as president and secretary of Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) respectively on Tuesday. The polling took place on July 23 and 8,773 lawyers had exercised their franchise for 28 posts of office-bearers of HCBA. The result for the president and secretary of HCBA was announced first on Tuesday.
However, according to returning officers the counting will continue for the remaining 26 posts of office-bearers of HCBA and the results will be announced within two days. In a keenly contested election, Rakesh Pande defeated his nearest rival CP Upadhyay by a margin of 193 posts. While Rakesh Pandey obtained 2,121 votes, his nearest rival CP Upadhyay obtained 1,928 votes. Ashok Kumar Singh bagged third post by obtaining 1,734 votes. For post of secretary, Akhilesh Kumar Sharma defeated his nearest rival Ray Sahab Yadav by a huge margin of 937 votes. While Akhilesh Kumar Sharma obtained 2,885 votes, Ray Sahab Yadav obtained 1,948 votes. Santosh Kumar Mishra came third by obtaining 1,149 votes. Former vice-present of HCBA – Harbansh Singh, ex-secretary JB Singh and Ashish Dubey congratulated the newly elected president and secretary, expecting that the new team would further strengthen HCBA.
