ALLAHABAD: Allahabad Medical Association (AMA) observed the World Arthiritis Day on Monday by organising a Continuous Medical Education (CME) on "Recent protocal in the management of arthritis" to spread awareness on the recent advancements in arthritis treatment. The CME was held under the presidentship of AMA vice-president Dr Amitav Ghosh.
CME was addressed by orthopedic surgeon Dr Kapil Kulshrestha and Prof N K Singh of BHU.
Physician Dr Milan Mukherjee and orthopedician Dr Ramesh Kumar chaired the session.
Speaking on the rise in arthritis cases, Dr Kapil Kulshresth told the audience that obesity, Indian style toilets and overuse of the joints are the main reasons behind osteoarthritis. In the initial stage of arthritis, weight control, proper exercises and use of western style toilet seats and medication may provide relief but in the advanced stage, joint replacement is the only solution. With the introduction of CAS (Computer Assisted Surgery) in Allahabad, this procedure is near perfect and matches international standards. CME was conducted by AMA secretary Dr Yuganter Pandey.
