Women, first-timers throng booths
Ditching home voting, 80 years & above reach booths to cast their vote
Octogenarians, nonagenarians, and even centenarians in Jaipur ditched the voting facility from home and cast their votes from polling booths. Many elderly citizens, including those with physical disabilities, expressed their preference for voting in person to avoid feeling incapable. The polling booths provided facilities such as e-rickshaw pick up and drop for senior citizens. Despite facing health challenges like jaundice, some elderly voters like Kashmiri Lal Kataria insisted on visiting the booth to witness the atmosphere and assess party efforts.
Young and first time voters enthusiastic about casting vote in Telangana elections
The Telangana State Elections, the Youngistaan Foundation, and the Times of India collaborated to organize an artistic dialogue promoting youth engagement in voting. The event featured slam poetry, rap performances, and an open mic session. Johnny Sandesh delivered a stand-up show, along with performances by Patruni Chidananda Sastry and band Varnam. First-time young voters expressed their intention to thoroughly examine party track records, candidates, and manifestos before casting their votes. The founder of the Youngistaan Foundation emphasized the importance of educating and empowering young voters through the 'Festival of Democracy' campaign.
Counting castes, counting votes...then?
The Bihar caste survey has given a new lease of life to the politics of social justice. All political parties, including BJP, are showing great interest in the relative marginalisation of the most backward communities and social groups.
