Jailvani brings Ajmer central jail inmates music, information

Ajmer: Inmates of the high-security Ajmer Central Jail have started getting audio entertainment and information facilities like in radio sets with the inauguration of an internal transmission facility called ‘Jailvani radio’ on the jail premises on Monday. Ajmer district collector Anshdeep, who inaugurated the Jailvani studio, said music and informative material that the prisoners would get to listen through the facility would inspire them to become good citizens. After the central jails in Bhilwara and Kota, Ajmer central jail is the third prison in Rajasthan to have Jailvani, which is operated by the inmates of the jails and officials working there.On the inaugural day, the nearly 1,200 prisoners housed in Ajmer Central Jail got to listen patriotic songs played for them in a programme called ‘Salami Hindustan’. As part of the Jailvani service, which will function daily from 12:30pm to 2pm, speakers have been installed in every ward of the jail.“Besides old songs of famous singers, there will be historic narration about Rajasthan, poems, bhajans, and comedy episodes to entertain the prisoners. They will also get to listen to the welfare programmes initiated by the state government. Music and programmes on demand will also be played for the prisoners,” said jail superintendent Suman Maliwal.Audio programmes based on stress and health management will also be played on Jailvani, she said. Jail officials will also communicate their instructions and views to prisoners through Jailvani, she added.“Jailvani was started here after positive results were seen in the jails of Kota and Bhilwara,” said Maliwal.
