Gandhinagar: The Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE) in Gandhinagar has expanded its academic structure with the establishment of seven new university schools under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, said the state govt on Wednesday.
The govt said that the institute is advancing towards becoming a “University of National Importance” while embracing a multidisciplinary academic model.
Quoting IITE director Mehul Dave, a statement said that IITE is poised to become India’s first university dedicated to training and developing AI educators. The state govt has allocated a grant of Rs 127 crore for the development of new academic buildings and hostel facilities, the statement added.
The seven new university schools that have been set up include School of Education in Sciences and Mathematics, School of Education in Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Physical Education, Sports and Yoga, School of Education in Performing Arts and Fine Arts, School of Education in Commerce, Management and Educational Leadership, School of Education in Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Areas, and School of Special Education.
With the introduction of the new academic structure at IITE, subjects such as artificial intelligence (AI), sports, arts, and management will now be integrated with education alongside science and mathematics, the statement added. Under the new policy framework, students from the science stream will also have the flexibility to choose subjects such as AI or philosophy as optional courses based on their interests and career aspirations.
