AHMEDABAD: City crime branch on Friday arrested a 43-year-old man from Gomtipur, who allegedly killed a Vastral resident named Shailesh Prajapati by running him over with a pick-up truck on June 24, after taking Rs 10 lakh from his wife, Sharda Prajapati.
According to police, Yasin Ansari, a resident of Pujari Chawl in Gomtipur, told investigators that he was given the contract for the killing in May.
Shailesh Prajapati, 43, a labour contractor, was mowed down by a pick-up truck during his morning walk on June 24. I Division traffic police had registered a complaint of causing death by negligenct driving against an unknown man.
CCTV footage of the accident showed a man walking behind Shailesh for some time and later then moved towards a pickup truck, the same vehicle which hit Shailesh.
The man sitting next to the driver was identified as Nitin Prajapati, the boyfriend of Shailesh’ wife, Sharda Prajapati. During his questioning, Nitin told the cops that he and Sharda had conspired to kill Shailesh and paid Ansari Rs 10 lakh to do it.
Nitin and Sharda allegedly contacted Ansari and handed a photograph of Shailesh to him. They also gave him details of Shailesh’s routine.
Nitin and Shailesh were friends and hailed from Ranpur village in Botad district. Nitin was a frequent visitor to Shailesh’s house and had also made him a partner in his real estate business.
Nitin and Sharda were arrested by city crime branch on July 4.
Police officers said Ansari was also wanted in a murder case, and four cases for bootlegging, gambling and causing hurt were registered against him between 2018 and 2020 with Gomtipur police.
