Gujarat museums draw over 16 lakh visitors in 2 years, tech-driven shift highlighted

Gandhinagar: The state govt said on Monday that over the past two years, museums across Gujarat have attracted more than 16 lakh visitors. It added that with changing times, museums have transformed from being mere repositories of artworks into vibrant centres of knowledge through the integration of digital technology.

An official statement said that in the past 12 years, five museums have been set up in Gujarat, including Smritivan, which reflects the resilience of Kutch residents against earthquakes, Dandi Kutir, which brings Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy to life, and the Vadnagar Experiential Museum, highlighting the cultural heritage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown.

Govt said that over the past decade, museums in the state have adopted modern technologies such as AR/VR, 3D projection mapping, holograms, and interactive touchscreens, enabling the younger generation not only to see but also to experience their heritage.

The statement added that the upcoming National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal is set to become the world’s largest maritime museum, while the museum at the Statue of Unity complex showcases the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and traces the history of the integration of princely states in India.
