Centre, Gujarat join hands for enhanced digital connectivity

Gandhinagar: The govt of India and the Gujarat govt signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on Wednesday under which the state's science and technology department will receive funding of Rs 6,000 crore from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) of the Central government's revised BharatNet program.
According to an official statement, Gujarat's science and technology department had submitted a detailed project report (DPR) to the Central govt. "The DPR includes the laying of fibre optic cables up to the village level to enhance signal strength at field offices and grassroots centres."
The govt statement further mentioned that over 320 services are currently available at more than 14,000 e-Gram centres. "With BharatNet phase-3, the remaining e-Gram centres will receive hybrid internet connectivity with over 98% uptime network assurance."
As per the statement, the BharatNet phase-2 network currently covers 7,400 schools, 600 health centres, 300 police posts, GIDC, tourist places, exhibition centres, etc., connecting a total of 50 locations.
