Guj on cusp on winning Col C K Nayudu trophy

Ahmedabad: Gujarat are four wickets away from lifting the Col C K Nayudu Trophy after reducing Mumbai to 118/6 in their second innings at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Valsad on Tuesday. This after the hosts had set Mumbai a target of 320 for an outright win. Resuming at 186/6 in their second innings, Gujarat captain Kshitij Patel rose to the occasion by hitting 88 and adding 84 runs along with Yash Doshi for the seventh wicket. Doshi’s dismissal for 37 brought Jay Malusare (10) to the crease, who added crucial 37 for the eighth wicket along with Kshitij. Gujarat were eventually bowled out for 309 in 95.5 overs. The last four wickets added 153 runs for the hosts. For Mumbai, Musheer Khan and captain Atharva Ankolekar grabbed four wickets apiece. Chasing 320, Mumbai lost Khan without scoring before Angriksh Raghuvanshi and Bhupen Lalwani added 54 for the second wicket. They lost Pragnesh Kanpillewar soon but the innings was stabilised by Lalwani and Vedant Murkar but the latter’s dismissal triggered a mini-collapse. From 92/3, the domestic giants lost Murkar, Ankolekar and Tanush Kotian to be placed precariously at 118/6 in 52 overs.
