DRI seizes 75 metric tonnes of areca nut worth ₹6.5cr
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Zonal Unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 75 metric tonnes of areca nut having tariff value of Rs 6.5 crore from Chennai and Bengaluru. “Specific intelligence received indicated that the consignment would be illicitly imported. The misdeclaration was made in name of grinding wheels as the consignment arrived from Jebel Ali Port in the UAE and it was shipped to the ICD Whitefield in Bengaluru,” said an official. One person was arrested in this connection. Import of high areca nut attracts a duty of 110%. tnn
