'Rejected my friend request': Delhi man creates 10 fake accounts, uploads 100 obscene AI-generated photos of Ahmedabad woman
AHMEDABAD: A Delhi resident was arrested by the city cybercrime police for allegedly creating multiple fake social media accounts and uploading AI-generated morphed obscene images and videos of an Ahmedabad woman and her mother after she rejected his friendship request, according to a statement issued by the cybercrime police.
According to police, the 27-year-old accused, Sumit Sharma, who delivers religious and spiritual discourses at events and also on social media, is a resident of northeast Delhi.
“He came into contact with the complainant through Instagram,” said a police officer. Police said the accused initially engaged the woman in religious conversations and later tried to develop a friendship with her. When the woman refused, he allegedly began stalking her online and created three fake Instagram accounts and a YouTube channel in her name.
Police said that between Dec 2025 and April 2026, Sharma allegedly downloaded photographs of the complainant and her mother from social media, used AI-based platforms to generate morphed obscene images and videos, and uploaded the content on fake social media profiles carrying the complainant’s photographs as display pictures. Police said the accounts also carried objectionable captions and content intended to harass the victim and damage her reputation.
Police said Sharma was apprehended from Delhi during the investigation of the case registered under Sections 78(2) and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 66(C) and 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Investigators allegedly recovered digital evidence from the accused’s mobile phone and found multiple fake accounts linked to the complainant across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube.
Police stated that forensic examination of the accused’s phone revealed the existence of eight to ten fake social media accounts created in the complainant’s name. The investigation also allegedly found that the accused had generated more than 100 AI-morphed images of the victim using various online tools and websites.
According to the cybercrime police statement, Sharma regularly uploaded religious discourse videos on social media platforms and projected himself as a preacher. Further investigation is underway, police said.
