Couple held for labourer’s murder

AHMEDABAD: Vejalpur police have arrested a couple in connection with the murder of Azim-ul-Rehman, a labourer from West Bengal, who was hacked to death on November 22.

Inspector C U Pareva, in-charge of Vejalpur police station, said, Azim-Ul Rehman Shaikh, had been killed over the alleged harassment of the wife and minor daughter of his friend Mansur Ali Shaikh.

“The accused, Mansur Ali Shaikh and his wife — whose name is being withheld as she had made a complaint of molestation against Rehman — had allegedly strangled Rehman to death. Shaikh’s wife had later garlanded Rehman’s corpse with shoes and chappals,” said Pareva, adding that the couple were arrested and sent to judicial custody on Tuesday.

The accused and the deceased worked at the same ice factory near Vishala Circle in Sarkhej and all three are from West Bengal, said Pareva.

Police booked the couple for murder and criminal conspiracy.
