Congress’s Vav candidate attacked by 3 unknown persons

AHMEDABAD: The Congress candidate for

, was allegedly attacked by unknown persons when she was returning after canvassing, near Khadosan village near Bhabhar in Banaskantha district late on Monday night.

Her driver, Hansabhai Thakor, said the assailants first pelted stones from the front and then damaged the car from behind. Thakor filed a complaint against the three unknown persons with Bhabhar taluka

“We were returning from Jasanvada village in our car when three persons rushed towards us on a bike and threw stones at the the car. I drove ahead for 50 or 100 metres and then they had threw the stones from the back, before fleeing,” said Thakor. Genibhai, who was campaigning, was not available for comment. She is the Congress’s candidate and faces BJP minister Shankar Chaudhary on the Vav assembly seat.

Mukesh Bharwad, vice president of the Gujarat Congress and an aide of OBC leader Alpesh Thakor, alleged that BJP leaders were behind the attack. “They are apprehending their defeat in the elections as even their minister Shankar Chaudhary will also lose against Geniben, so they resorted to this kind of violence,” said Bharwad.
