Complete work by July 31 on Makarba ROB: AMC chief

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani on Monday paid a site visit to the four-lane railway overbridge at Makarba to inspect the ongoing work. Reviewing the progress, the civic chief issued strict directives to maintain high-quality standards and fast-track the work to meet a firm completion deadline of July 31.

The commissioner also ordered officials to deploy effective traffic management systems to ensure smooth vehicle movement and minimise public inconvenience in the surrounding areas. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has already accelerated the infrastructure project, recently completing the critical launching work of 12 steel composite girders.

Once operational, the Makarba ROB will drastically improve West Ahmedabad’s connectivity, creating a seamless link between Makarba, Vejalpur Corporate Road, and the SG Highway. The bridge is expected to entirely eliminate the severe traffic jams that currently paralyse local motorists due to long waiting times at the active railway crossing.

The mega project is being executed via a sanctioned tender of Rs 70.7 crore against an initial approved estimate of Rs 87.3 crore. Spanning 636.9m in length, the four-lane overbridge is being constructed on a 40-metre-wide road connecting Torrent Power Makarba in Vejalpur to Corporate Road and the SG Highway. The final structure will feature a total width of 16.4m, including a spacious 15.5-metre carriageway to handle heavy traffic flow.
