Coast Guard saves 13 fishermen stranded near Dwarka

Ahmedabad: Amid heavy rain in Gujarat, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued 13 fishermen stranded on a boat adrift in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Devbhumi Dwarka district, the maritime security agency reported on Wednesday.
On Aug 27, the Coast Guard responded to a distress signal from the fishing boat ‘Padmawati', stranded 15km off the coast of Dwarka. It had experienced mechanical failure due to the inclement weather and tumultuous sea conditions off the coast of Gujarat.
With 13 lives at risk, the ICG, as the ‘first responder at sea', promptly dispatched an ALH helicopter to assess the situation. Concurrently, ICG ship ‘Abheek' was rerouted for the rescue operation, despite the adverse weather and extremely turbulent sea conditions.
Despite treacherous weather and turbulent sea conditions, the ICG executed a daring nighttime rescue operation, towing the imperiled boat to safety. All 13 crew members were safely brought back to Okha in the early hours of Aug 28.
