Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation faces pushback on Asaram ashram

AHMEDABAD: In a major embarrassment to the civic body, the

(AMC) was forced to withdraw the permission of regularization of construction given to the Sant Asaram Mahila

Ashram

in Motera, a complex encompassing residences and commercial units. The development comes two years after the west zone of the civic body issued Building Use permission following the acceptance of the ashram’s application under

Gujarat

Regularization of Unauthorized Development Act, 2011 (GRUDA).


The matter was kept under wraps for almost a month, till an RTI revealed the order of the Ahmedabad deputy collector which had instructed that the illegal construction on the land in Sabarmati-Motera TP-21 be demolished. The deputy collector (non-agricultural) had ordered on September 2014 that the land was disputed owing to a case filed by Nainesh Shah. The order said that the said land was for “agricultural use”.
