GANDHINAGAR: The state government said on Friday that more than 67,000 tribal students have studied in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in the past five years.

These schools were set up by the state government for tribal students studying in Classes 6 to 12.

An official statement said that the EMRS have been patterned on the Union government's Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya programme.

The statement added that in the past five years, from 2018-19 to 2022-23, the Union government has provided a grant of Rs 44,142 lakh and the state government has spent Rs 15,468 lakh.

"A total amount of Rs 59,268 lakh has been spent on providing quality education to tribal students under the EMRS scheme," the statement said. There are 44 EMRS in the state.
