24-year-old woman kidnapped from in-laws’ home in Sabarmati
Ahmedabad: A 24-year-old woman was abducted from her in-laws’ residence in Sabarmati on Tuesday afternoon by a group of four persons who took her away in a car after threatening the family members, police said.
A complaint was lodged with the Sabarmati police by the victim’s 62-year-old mother-in-law. The complainant suspects that the woman was abducted by a man from Rajasthan with whom she allegedly had a relationship before marriage, along with his associates.
According to the FIR, the woman had married a Sabarmati resident in 2025 and had been living with her husband’s family in Ahmedabad for the past six months. She had recently returned from her parental home in Rajasthan after appearing for her Class 12 exam.
The complainant told police that she and her daughter-in-law were at home when a young man and a woman visited the house and bought two quilts. About an hour later, around 1.45pm, a white SUV reached the residence. Three men and a woman allegedly stepped out of the vehicle and entered the house.
Police said one of the men went directly to the room where the woman was resting and tried to wake her up. When the complainant intervened, the man allegedly brandished what appeared to be a weapon and warned her against any interference. He then allegedly pushed her to the ground.
The victim was dragged out of the house despite her cries for help, the FIR stated. The other members of the group allegedly assisted in forcing her into the rear seat of the vehicle before fleeing towards Motera. Neighbours gathered at the spot after hearing the commotion, but the suspects managed to escape.
Police have registered a case of abduction and launched efforts to trace the woman and identify the accused.
