AGRA: Patients visiting the Out Patients Department (OPD) at the SN Medical College are being forced to purchase essential medicines from outside as the hospital continues to grapple with the problem of shortage of supplies.
Talking to TOI, some of the patients said that they have been forced to buy medicines from outside as the medical facility is crippled with shortage of essential drugs. They even alleged that the pharmacy outlet inside the hospital premises stores medicines only for ailments like fever, cough etc but most of the essential drugs have to be bought from outside.
Udit Sharma, whose son is suffering from epilepsy said, “I cannot afford to buy medicines from the market as they are expensive. So, I came here for good treatment and free medicines for my son but the scenario here is completely different,” he added.
Another patient, Devendra Rajput (45) from Bichpuri faces similar problem. “I have to travel 10-12 km to come to the hospital for eye treatment but for the past one month I had to buy most of the medicines from outside as I was told that there is no stock of medicines in the hospital.”
However, hospital superintendent Dr Ajay Agrawal refuted all the allegations and said there is no crisis of medicines at the facility. “Essential medicines are available at the OPD for visiting patients,” he said.
