Cricketer Rinku Singh’s monetised FB account with 1.6 mn followers ‘hacked’
AGRA: Team India cricketer Rinku Singh's monetised Facebook account -- with around 1.6 million followers -- has been hacked, police said on Friday. During preliminary checks by the cyber crime cell, it was found that the FB ID was linked to Rinku's gmail account, and was now being operated under an "unknown name".As per police, Rinku, a resident of Aligarh, had informed SSP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun about the matter on Wed. Jadaun said, "About two days ago, the cricketer told me that he had not used his FB account for several days but had come to know that someone was uploading posts from it."The cricketer's brother, Sonu Singh, submitted a complaint on behalf of Rinku in Aligarh, and a case was registered against an ‘unidentified person' under sections 66C (identity theft) and 66D (cheating by personation...) of the IT Act at the cyber police station. The cyber crime cell has now initiated an investigation in the case.In the complaint, Rinku stated: "As a member of the Indian cricket team, I was busy with my matches, and hence, I did not pay much attention to my Facebook account. Recently, I tried to open the account, but the ID access and password were denied. When photographs and video clips of mine started getting uploaded automatically, I realised that my ID was hacked.
After that, I tried to open it several times. My FB ID was logged in with my mail ID. Now it is being logged in with some other mail ID.""My FB account is monetised, from which income is generated; the concerned person is taking this money via fraud...," the cricketer added.According to a UP police cyber crime expert, if someone's monetised FB account is hacked, then hackers can link their bank account with the hacked FB account and can get paid. Cops however did not confirm if the hackers had managed to transfer any amount from the cricketer's account, adding that the matter is under investigation.
