Pistol, cartridges, fake currency and multiple IDs seized from Aligarh Muslim University hostel room; suspect on run
AGRA: After a firing incident at a residential area by a masked man in Aligarh on Wednesday, police conducted a search at a hostel of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and recovered a cache of illegal ammunition, including two empty magazines of a country-made .32 bore pistol, four empty .315 bore shells, four live 12 bore cartridges, one bullet cartridge and several empty shells from a room. Police said the accused, Shahbaz, resident of Aligarh’s Shahanshabad area, is on the run.
SSP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said, “Call detail records (CDR) of the accused are being analysed, and a laptop is being examined. It has come to light that Shahbaz used multiple identities in different documents, which are currently being verified.”
According to cops, 26 certificates (both genuine and fake), a Dell laptop, a digital notepad, eight mobile phones and counterfeit currency notes of 500 and 100 denomination, were also found in the hostel room.
The recovery was made during a search operation carried out by a joint team of Civil Lines and Quarsi police in connection with a firing case registered at Quarsi on April 7. Soon after, an FIR was registered under BNS sections 191 (2) (rioting), 191 (3) (rioting with deadly weapons), 190 (unlawful assembly), 109 (1) (attempt to murder) and 3 (5) (common intention).
A separate case was registered at Civil Lines under BNS sections 179 (possession of forged documents), 180 (using forged documents), 318 (4) (cheating), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life) and 336 (3) (act endangering life) along with sections of the Arms Act, following the recovery.
Requesting people to share information about any such individuals possessing illegal weapons, especially those staying in hostels, SSP Jadaun added that “strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt order”.
