Tripura cancels summer break for colleges

Agartala: Tripura govt on Tuesday cancelled the scheduled summer vacation of both public and private colleges under the state this year.Director of state higher education NC Sharma, in a notification, said, “In the interest of the students, summer vacation for the general degree colleges/professional colleges/technical institutes under the control of the department has been withdrawn, which was scheduled from May 9 to June 3.”Sources said study was hampered in both schools and colleges first because of elections and then for the heatwave that swept across Tripura for two weeks.Although classes in the schools can be managed before the first terminal exam, colleges cannot be managed as the semester exam is pre-scheduled according to university programmes, Sharma said.The colleges will remain open during this period for conducting classes to complete the syllabus for the ensuing semester examinations, he pointed out.The faculty members and staff working in the colleges will get 26 days earned leave since the college will remain open and the classes will be conducted during the summer vacation, the director said, adding that this was only for this year.
