One arrested for shootout in Agartala

Agartala: West Tripura police arrested a middle-aged man identified as Pradyot Ghosh Chowdhury on the charge of being involved in the death of 35-year-old Durga Prasanna Deb alias Vicky on Tuesday evening near BSF’s frontier headquarters in Salbagan area of the city.Superintendent of police Kiran Kumar K said, “Pradyot was picked up from his house in Ushabazar area near Agartala airport and at least eight people were involved in the incident.” He indicated personal rivalry might have led to the murder. However, police have been looking at all other angles.Soures said the deceased was general secretary of Bharat Ratna Sangha, which has been controlling and regulating the contracts of CPWD. Because of the negotiation of distributing government works, shootouts, kidnapping and attacks have become common in Ushabazar.The residents of the locality alleged that in the past, multiple shootouts have taken place in this area but none of the incidents was investigated properly.
