The BJP supporters lodged a complaint with police against a group of CPM workers, accusing them of attacking their rally. CPM too alleged that they were attacked. Former minister and senior CPM leader Ratan Bhowmik alleged 40 of their supporters were injured in a series of attacks in the presence of police. The violence continued the whole night in different locations around Udaipur where a party office in Mirza was ransacked and several CPM supporters in Rajnagar, Dhajnagar and Jamjuri were assaulted. He said BJP workers surrounded RK Pur police station since Tuesday because of which CPM victims could not register formal complaints. However, the police were informed about the incident over the phone, Bhowmick said.

“Violent workers of ruling party have openly warned opposition supporters in local markets even on Wednesday morning. Police too have not managed to do anything. Opposition leader and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar spoke to senior police officer on Tuesday, but that too has not helped,” Bhowmik alleged.

Meanwhile, BJP denied the allegations and said CPM cadres from the rally attacked two BJP supporters, and when others came to rescue them, they too were assaulted. The accused fled when BJP supporters tried to attack them. Tourism and transport minister Pranajit Singharoy said police were asked to investigate the matter and take action against all the accused. He denied allegations that CPM was prevented to go to the police station and said, “Udaipur is an important tourism destination in the state, but such narrow politics will affect the BJP-IPFT government’s efforts.”
