3 Tripura govt staff suspended for MCC flout on poll day

Agartala: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended three more Tripura govt employees for violating the election code on the day of polling on Friday. With this, the number of officials suspended since March 16 rose to 26 in the state, officials said.This is the first time so many govt employees have been suspended in the state for violating the model code of conduct by participating in election campaigns and showing their alignment towards parties. According to election officials, a graduate teacher of Kulai SB School in Dhalai district, Prabrajika Roy, who was appointed the first polling officer in the Surma assembly constituency, has been suspended from service for praising leaders of a political party. The returning officer of Tripura East (ST) parliamentary constituency recommended her suspension, they added. Another post-graduate teacher of Bishalgarh English Medium Class XII School, Samir Ranjan Dev, and a rifleman of 10 Battalion TSR, Shubhankar Deb Ray, were suspended for their alleged conduct in favour of a particular political party, he added. Earlier, a presiding officer, Niranjan Paul, was withdrawn midway of voting after allegations of influencing the voting process surfaced against him.
