Vande Bharat sleeper train, when it is first launched by Indian Railways is 2024, is likely to be a game changer for long-distance overnight train travel across major rail routes in India. Indian Railways has said that the Vande Bharat sleeper train will be a “class-apart”, “world-class” train set which will have the “wow” factor. Touted as a “superior” train that will eventually replace Rajdhani Express trains, the Vande Bharat sleeper train is a flagship project of Indian Railways, aimed at changing the face of premium passenger travel. Vande Bharat sleeper train goes under production: The production of the first Vande Bharat sleeper prototype train set commenced in late October at BEML Limited’s Bangalore complex. The train is being manufactured by BEML in collaboration with Indian Railways’ coach factory ICF. (Concept image)

Like the AC chair car version, the Vande Bharat sleeper train will also be capable of running at speeds of 160 kmph, making it a semi-high speed train set. The self-propelled train will have faster acceleration and deceleration, hence boasting the capability to reduce travel time significantly. (Concept image)

The 16-coach Vande Bharat sleeper train will have 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches and 1 AC 1st coach. The total number of berths on the train will be 823. In an earlier interaction with TOI, BEML CMD Shantanu Roy said that all efforts will be made to roll out the Vande Bharat sleeper prototype by March 2024. (Concept image)

Vande Bharat sleeper train interior: ICF BG Mallya has said that the Vande Bharat sleeper trains will have a “wow” factor that has never been seen before in India. Vande Bharat sleeper train features: The new train will have “best-in-class interiors”, according to BEML. It will have modern passenger amenities for travelers, modular pantry, ergonomically designed odor free toilet system, sensor-based intercommunication doors, automatic exterior passenger doors, shower with hot water in 1st AC car and noise insulation and mitigation measures for silent saloon space. Vande Bharat sleeper train features: Some of the other features include; special berths and toilets for differently abled, spacious luggage room, remotely operated Fire barrier doors at end wall, soft lighting, smoke and fire detection, on board wi-fi infotainment, emergency talk back unit, centralized coach monitoring system. Vande Bharat sleeper train exterior: Similar to the Vande Bharat Express, the exterior of the sleeper train is aerodynamic, with a nose cone similar to bullet trains in terms of looks. The train will have a driving cabin at each end. (Concept image)
