Stock market today: Key stock indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, recovered on Tuesday following two sessions of sharp losses, with strong buying in major stocks such as Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank and L&T, supported by positive global market sentiment.

The gains were partially offset by declining IT shares before earnings announcements and a weakening rupee against the dollar, according to market participants.

The BSE Sensex concluded at 78,199.11, rising by 234.12 points or 0.30 per cent, after reaching an intraday high of 78,452.74, up 487.75 points or 0.62 per cent.

The NSE Nifty advanced by 91.85 points or 0.39 per cent to close at 23,707.90.

Among the BSE-30 constituents, notable gainers included Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, Nestle India, UltraTech Cement, Larsen & Toubro and Adani Ports.

The declining shares comprised Zomato, HCL Tech, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Infosys.

Asian markets ended mixed, with Seoul, Tokyo, and Shanghai closing higher, whilst Hong Kong declined.

European markets traded positively during mid-session. US markets largely finished higher on Monday.

The rupee depreciated by 5 paise to close at 85.73 against the US dollar on Tuesday.

FIIs sold shares worth Rs 2,575.06 crore on Monday, as per exchange data.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, decreased 0.12 per cent to USD 76.21 per barrel.

In the previous trading session, the BSE benchmark declined by 1,258.12 points or 1.59 per cent to end at 77,964.99, below 78,000. The Nifty dropped 388.70 points or 1.62 per cent to 23,616.05.
