​Which new Indian Railways trains will be launched in 2024? From Vande Bharat sleeper to Vande Metro & Amrit Bharat: Must-see details & images

New trains 2024: Indian Railways is looking to roll out many new types of trains for passenger comfort - from Vande Bharat sleeper with better features than Rajdhani Express to Vande Metro and even more Amrit Bharat trains. The aim of the new Indian Railways trains is to offer safer and more comfortable travel options to rail passengers - from short distance to long distance overnight travel and better comforts for the common man. We take a look at the new Indian Railways trains that passengers can look forward to in 2024 and their special features:

Vande Bharat sleeper: A prototype of the new Vande Bharat sleeper train is expected to be rolled out in the coming months. The new train which will be self-propelled and capable of attaining 160 kmph speeds will be better than Rajdhani Express trains for long distance overnight travel. (Concept image)

Vande Bharat sleeper trains will offer world-class passenger comforts, jerk-free rides and a faster travel option with the train set boasting of better acceleration and deceleration. Vande Metro, being manufactured at ICF Chennai, will be a new premium train for short distance travel up to 300 kilometres. Inspired from Vande Bharat trains, the self-propelled Vande Metro train will provide a faster air-conditioned travel option to passengers. The train will be able to run at speeds of up to 130 kmph. Each coach of Vande Metro trains will have seats for 100 passengers and capacity for 200 passengers to stand. (Concept image)

Vande Metro features: Some of the salient features of the upcoming Vande Metro trains are; CCTV, cameras, PIS system with LCD displays, modular toilet with vacuum evacuation system, aerodynamically designed driving end, fully sealed gangways, light weight cushioned seats of contemporary design, diffused lighting, route indicator displays, wider panoramic sealed windows with roller blinds, emergency Talk Back Unit, mobile charging sockets, KAVACH train anti collision system among others. Amrit Bharat Express trains are the latest offering from Indian Railways aimed at catering to the needs of the aam aadmi. The new push-pull trains with a locomotive at each end at present have second class sleeper and general class unreserved coaches. The new trains offer several Vande Bharat Express style passenger comforts such as sealed gangways, jerk free rides, better toilets, cushioned seats and much more.

More Amrit Bharat trains: PM Narendra Modi recently flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains; first between Darbhanga and Delhi via Ayodhya and the second between Bengaluru and Manda town. In the new financial year, Indian Railways is looking to manufacture more Amrit Bharat trains and the new ones are expected to have AC coaches as well.

More Vande Bharat trains: Indian Railways will continue to roll out the AC chair car premium Vande Bharat Express trains this year as well.
