Bank Holidays May 2025: For those planning banking activities in May 2025, it's essential to understand that bank holidays vary across different states. Whilst not all banks nationwide will be closed simultaneously, several significant holidays could affect banking services in specific regions.
All banks, both scheduled and non-scheduled, will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.
During May, banks will observe closures for Maharashtra Din/May Day (Labour Day), Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore, Buddha Pournima, State Day, Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Maharana Pratap Jayanti.
State-specific Holiday Schedule
Banks in different states will observe closures on these dates for local festivals, regional celebrations, and gazetted holidays:
May 1 (Wednesday) – Labour Day / Maharashtra Day
Banking establishments will not operate in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Manipur, Kerala, West Bengal, Goa, Bihar on this date.
May 9 (Friday) – Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti
Banking services will be unavailable in West Bengal on this occasion.
May 12 (Monday) – Buddha Poornima
Financial institutions will remain closed across Tripura, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar on May 12, 2025 in observance of Buddha Poornima.
May 16 (Friday) – Sikkim State Day
Banking operations will be suspended in Sikkim on May 16, 2025 to commemorate the State Day.
May 26 (Monday) – Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam
Banking services will not be available in Tripura on May 26, 2025 as the state observes the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
May 29 (Thursday) – Maharana Pratap Jayanti
Banks in Himachal Pradesh will remain closed on May 29, 2025 to observe Maharana Pratap Jayanti.
During bank holidays, customers should note that branch services, cheque processing, NEFT/RTGS transfers, and loan-related activities will be unavailable. Whilst electronic services including ATMs, internet banking, and mobile applications continue to function, customers should plan ahead for any requirements involving physical banking or documentation.
