Blink & miss shows on television

'Manmarziyan' wraps up in four months:

TV show 'Manmarziyan', which launched in April this year, is set to wrap up by the end of this month. Despite being appreciated for the content and its production quality, it failed to generate sustainable ratings. The channel has decided to pull the plug on it after a four-month run. A source says, “It was an experiment, which failed to strike a chord with the audience and hence, the decision.”

Chhanchhan: This Indian family drama was aired on Sony Entertainment from March- September 2013. The show was tentatively titled ‘Modern Bahu’ during pre-production and starred Sanaya Irani, Supriya Pathak and Anuj Sachdeva. During the launch of the show, countless teasers and outdoor campaigns were announced for the arrival of the protagonist Chhanchhan. All this gave the impression that this show would be a game-changer. Sanaya Irani’s popularity after ‘Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?’ was supposed to be the show’s USP but neither the script nor Sanaya’s fans could grab eye balls or impress the viewers.

Savitri: 'Savitri' was aired on Life OK from February 2013 to October 2013. Though the show worked hard in terms of graphics, visual and sound technology, the story line just confused the viewers making it go off-air in less than a year! Neither the special effects nor the revamping of the story helped the show to sustain viewership.

Saraswatichandra: The show was aired on Star Plus in February 2013 and went off-air in September 2014. Sanjay Leela Bansali’s mega-saga could never manage to pick up since the beginning. Sanjay adapted the story from the eponymous novel ‘Saraswatichandra’ depicting it in his style. The teasers and promos of the show depicted the show as a romantic epilogue but failed to deliver what it promised. The on-screen chemistry of the lead couple Gautam Rode and Jennifer Winget failed to impress the viewers. Due to Bansali’s busy schedule, the production of the show was taken over by another producer leading to its wrap.

Rangrasiya: This show was aired on Colors from December 2013 to September 2014. The show revolved around the story of Parvati (Sanaya Irani), a villager woman and a Border Suraksha Dal officer Rudra (Ashish Sharma) and how they fall in love. The show was shot extensively in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur but still managed to fail to impress the viewers. The show though made Ashish Sharma a star, but couldn’t do much with the script. The show was promoted extensively, but a weak plot and average acting made it go off-air too soon.

Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha: This show bought the concept of seasons in Indian fiction shows on TV. 'Na Bole Tum'… Season 1 was aired in Jan 2012 till October 2012 and the second season was aired in January 2013 and wrapped up in September 2013. The cute love story of Mohan and Megha did work in the first season but the second season surely failed to impress the viewers. The second season though promised the evolution of existing characters – Kunal Karan Kapoor and Akanksha Singh, but the weak script did not garner much viewership as expected. The show never managed to gain high TRPs and gradually faded away.

Ek Ghar Banaaunga: The show was aired on Star Plus in April 2013 and went off-air in June 2014. The interesting love story of Poonam and Akash turned into a flop because of the show’s time slot. The show was aired at 6.30 pm and despite having talented actors like Ishita Dutta and Rahul Sharma in the show, it couldn’t score high ratings.

Bani – Ishq Da Kalma: The show was aired on Colors in March 2013 and ended in June 2014. ‘Bani-Ishq Da Kalma’ started off with the concept of Punjabi rural villagers’ dream of marrying off their daughters to NRI boys, however, the show slowly lost its plot and interest of the viewers. The show initially caught attention because of the controversy surrounding its title – from ‘Gurbani’ to ‘Bani-Ishq Da Kalma’. The show was said to be the next big thing on TV which could give other shows a run for their money but it turned out to be a complete let down. Enormous pressure to come up with something new in every episode, messed up the script with unwanted twists and boredom.

Anamika: Vikas Seth’s debut show as a producer ‘Anamika’ was aired on Sony Entertainment in November 2012 and went off-air in September 2013. The show was based on a love story with supernatural twist in it. The show failed to see sunshine even after having a pretty witch Anamika. The story of a witch falling for a human did not go well and did not connect with the audiences. Overall, the show was a complicated drama with a touch of supernatural element, supposedly the USP of the show, but got big thumbs down for the script as well as the characters.

Amita Ka Amit: 'Amita Ka Amit' was aired on Sony Entertainment in January 2013 and got wrapped up in December 2013. The show’s promo seemed interesting and promising. The concept of a fat girl Amita’s life and her arranged marriage with Amit attracted viewers initially but fizzled off within a year! Siddharth Tewari’s effort to tie two conventionally not-so-good-looking people did not work well for Sony. Amita (Chandani Bhagwanani) marries Amit (Nishad Vaidya), fall in love, part ways and get back together post a 6-month leap, failed to impress the audiences. The twists and turns in the script also couldn’t save the ship from sinking.

Airlines: This show starring Bollywood actress Tulip Joshi was supposed to be a 26 episodes serial but ended after just 20 episodes. Airlines faced much turbulence and could not impress the Indian audiences. Despite a promising story, the show could not take off at all. The new-age love story of pilots turned out to be a massive flop and could not be understood by the viewers. Even Tulip’s presence could not create any ripples on the TRP charts. The show ended prematurely due to poor ratings.
