Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez recently sent shock waves across the world after reaching a mutual agreement with Repsol Honda Team to end their 11-year-long association together. The Spaniard, has now completed his much anticipated move to join his brother Alex Marquez at Ducati’s satellite team, Gresini Racing, with the outfit confirming the deal for the 2024 MotoGP season.

Marquez-Honda mutually agreed to end their four-year contract which was supposed to end at the end of the next year. With his move sealed for Gresini Racing, Marquez will finally ride a Ducati as a satellite rider, which means he will be riding an year-old Desmocidici and will not have same level of factory support such as the factory riders ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini.

However, given his skills and experience, the Spaniard cannot be ruled out of championship contention next year. Having won six premier class titles and spending his entire MotoGP career with the Japanese manufacturer, Marquez, who is still as hungry to win a championship, lost faith in the Honda bike after having failed to win a race in over 2 years.

Despite not receiving the same machinery as the factory team, the Ducatis do hold possession and are much capable of delivering a championship fight, especially with a rider of Marquez’s calibre mounted on ‘em.
Speaking on his move to Gresini, Marquez said “Bike-chance-wise, I know I will have to adapt my riding style to a few things, and it won’t be easy. But I’m also sure that the whole Team Gresini will help me a lot. I can’t wait to get to know the team and start working with them.”
On the other hand, Honda has still not found a replacement for Marquez for the next season. However, a promotion for Johann Zarco, who has agreed to join LCR Honda for 2024, could be on the cards.
