Car sales March '26: Renault sees fastest growth, check how others performed
India’s passenger vehicle market closed the fiscal year on a strong note, with most carmakers reporting healthy year-on-year growth in March 2026. Improved demand, strong SUV portfolios and rising interest in electric vehicles helped drive volumes across brands. Here’s a quick look at how the carmakers performed.
At the top of the chart, Maruti Suzuki India continued to lead the market with total sales of 2,25,251 units in March 2026, marking a 16.72 per cent increase over 1,92,984 units sold in March 2025. Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,66,219 units, up 10.27 per cent from 1,50,743 units in the same month last year.
Tata Motors reported a strong surge in domestic passenger vehicle sales, which rose to 66,192 units in March 2026 from 51,616 units a year ago, translating to a growth of 28 per cent. International PV sales jumped to 779 units from 256 units last year. The company’s EV segment also saw significant traction, with sales climbing 77 per cent to 9,494 units compared to 5,353 units in March 2025. The brand also highlighted a record-breaking fourth quarter, crossing 2,00,000 units in quarterly sales with around 37 per cent growth, driven by strong demand for models like the Nexon and Punch.
Hyundai Motor India reported total sales of 69,004 units, registering a 2.5 per cent year-on-year growth. Domestic sales reached 55,064 units, the company’s highest-ever March domestic performance, reflecting a 6.3 per cent increase, while exports stood at 13,940 units.
Mahindra & Mahindra posted robust numbers in the SUV segment, with domestic sales reaching 60,272 units in March, up 25 per cent year-on-year. Including exports, total UV sales stood at 62,109 units.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor also recorded steady growth, reporting total sales of 37,194 units in March 2026, compared to 30,043 units in March 2025, a rise of 24 per cent. Domestic sales grew to 35,125 units from 28,373 units, while exports increased to 2,069 units from 1,670 units, both reflecting a 24 per cent growth.
Kia India achieved its highest-ever monthly sales, dispatching 29,112 units in March 2026, up 14.5 per cent from 25,525 units a year earlier. The company also reported its best-ever quarterly performance, with sales in the January–March period rising 11.6 per cent to 84,316 units. The growth was largely driven by consistent demand for the Seltos, which has been clocking over 10,000 units monthly.
JSW MG Motor India posted a 19 per cent year-on-year growth, with sales reaching 6,528 units in March 2026, indicating steady demand across both its ICE and new energy vehicle portfolio.
Skoda Auto India recorded sales of 7,928 units in March 2026, compared to 7,422 units in March 2025, reflecting a modest increase.
Among the fastest-growing brands, Renault India reported a sharp 77 per cent rise in domestic wholesales, with volumes increasing to 5,046 units in March 2026 from 2,846 units a year earlier.
