Yamaha R3 and MT-03 launched: Top five things to know
Yamaha Motor India recently announced the launch of the new Yamaha R3 and the Yamaha MT-03 in the Indian market. The R3 and MT-03 will be bought to India via the CBU route and MT-03 will come to India for the first time whereas the R3 was sold in India earlier. In this article let’s take a look at the top five things you need to know about the Yamaha R3 and the MT-03.
Design
In terms of design, the R3 looks very similar to the R15. It gets fully faring with dual LED headlamps up front and intake in the centre. The bike weighs in at 169kg and has low seat height of 780mm. Yamaha also says that the R3 also gets near 50/50 weight distribution and the handlebar of the R3 is made of cast aluminium. The bike also gets a combo of fairings, a windscreen, cross-layered wind and an air duct that directs air to the radiator. The MT-03 too looks simair to the MT-15 and gets naked design. It features an LED headlamp with aggressively styled fuel tank and extensions on both ends.
Dimension and Suspension
In terms of dimensions, the R3 measures 2,090mm in length, 730mm in width, 1,140 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1,380mm. The MT-03 measures 2,090mm in length, 755mm in width, 1,170mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1,380mm. Talking about the suspension setup, both bikes get inverted telescopic forks at the front with 130 mm of travel and a mono-shock at the rear with 125 mm of travel.
Tyres, Braking and features
Talking about the brakes, both bikes get a 298 mm hydraulic single front disc brake with a 220 mm rear hydraulic single disc. Bikes also get dual-channel ABS. The bikes also get the same set of tyres, at the front it gets 17-inch 110/70-section tyres and at the rear, it gets 17-inch 140/70-section tyres. In terms of features, the bikes get LCD instrument cluster, LED lighting and much more.
Engine and Gearbox
Talking about the engine, the R3 and the MT-03 are powered by a 321cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that puts out 41.4 BHP of power and 29.6 nm of torque. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The MT-03 is identical to the R3 with the same chassis and engine.
Price
The R3 was sold in India earlier and is priced at Rs 4.64 lakh (ex-showroom). The MT-03 comes to India for the first time and is priced at Rs 4.59 lakh (ex-showroom). The bookings for the bikes are already underway and interested customers can book it online.
